AP“Gentlemen’s clubs” in El Paso, you can breathe a little easier today. Mike Price isn’t going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
Amid rumors that they would be looking to go in another direction at the position, UTEP instead announced late Thursday morning that Price would be returning for a ninth season in 2012. No reason was given for the decision (sorry, couldn’t resist).
In eight seasons with the Miners, Price has posted a 45-52 overall record. Based on a statistic given in the press release announcing the athletic department’s decision, bringing Price back makes complete sense.
In 31 seasons prior to Price’s arrival (1973-2003), the Miners averaged 2.6 wins per year with four years of five or more victories. UTEP has averaged 5.6 wins under Price with six years of five or more victories.
I bet Price misses the good ole days up in that palouse at washington state, where he enjoyed 10 win seasons, trip to the Rose Bowl and other big bowl games…….
he hasnt been the same since the Alabama and strip club debacle occured..
but non the less, he has to get it together in El Paso…he set the world on fire in his first year there, going 9-4 and to Texas Bowl, but he has only had one winning season since….
he is able to recruit West Texas exclusively and goes into San Antonio, Dallas and Houston to get his share of recruits, so I expect to see a return on that investment next season, or 2012 will be his last in El Paso…
It’s actually good to see somebody keeping their coach. Kind of sickening to see all these firings. No stability in any program anymore. UTEP will be better off for this.
JT …
Thought “No, don’t click on that story … the temptation will be be too much.”
Ahh, how nice you went there for me
We live in a era where every fan/school thinks they can have a top-10 school. With Boise State making a run every year, this has gotten worse.
Sometimes you have to be happy with have you’ve got. Mike Price is as good of coach they’ll get right now.
