Clemson suspends second-leading rusher for ACC title game

When reeling Clemson takes the field in the ACC championship game Saturday night, they’ll do so a little bit lighter in the backfield than expected.

Head coach Dabo Swinney announced via a press release less than an hour before kickoff that running back Mike Bellamy has been suspended for the title game against Virginia Tech. The reason given for the disciplinary action was, of course, an unspecified violation of team rules.

The release notes that Bellamy had traveled to Charlotte with the team, but returned to Clemson on Saturday.

The true freshman is second on the Tigers in rushing yards (343) and rushing touchdowns (three). In a 23-3 win over the Hokies earlier this year, Bellamy rushed for 47 yards on just six carries and scored a touchdown.
