Getty ImagesThe celebration of Oklahoma State’s first-ever Big 12 title took a dangerous turn Saturday night after several fans were injured in the jubilant, on-field free-for-all, the Associated Press is reporting.
Following the Cowboys’ Bedlam boot-stomping of Oklahoma in Stillwater, what appeared to be several thousand fans stormed the field. During the course of that celebratory moment, 13 fans suffered injuries, including two of which are described as critical.
Emergency medical personnel told the AP that several people were trampled in the rush of fans, and that one of those critically injured had fallen 15 feet in an attempt to get onto the field. Of the 13 injured, 11 were taken to local hospitals. The only specific injuries mentioned were leg fractures.
Two of the injured have already been released from the hospital.
Below is a video clip shot from the stands of Boone Pickens Stadium, which shows the chaos that followed a win that could — could — propel the Cowboys into the BcS title game next month:
Here come the lawsuits.
Kind of over the top celebration there. Wonder how much booze, played a roll in there. It is a football game, and it appears the announcer is not the brightest bulb on the tree. Wonder how some felt when they learned that there were two critical injuries. I guess, when they play again, they had better call up the national guard to control them.
I guess this is the end of football as we know it now. The ACLU Lawyers,Congress, and everyone will get together and pass laws to protect us from ourselves. Electric fenses so the fans can’t get on the field, or national guard security in the thousands, stadium security in the thousands all unionized of course and full time, or just the woman from Walmart with her pepper spray, that should do it.
Low class fans from a low class program that obviously doesn’t know how to handle success. Tearing down the goal posts is always a sure sign that a program has been nothing but a bottom feeder! It honors the opponent more than it does the home team!
OSU hS lost to the Sooners the last 8 years. I can see the OSU fans getting excited. But falling 15 feet onto concrete and getting trampled by other fans is a little extreme. They should have stayed in the stands to celebrate. No lawsuits are needed for self inflected stupidity.
@ousocialworker
Sounds like you’re a little bitter at losing last night…
“Low class fans from a low class program that obviously doesn’t know how to handle success”
I couldnt care less about OSU but you Sooner jackasses are some of the biggest boors I have ever seen – and ive been amongst throngs of Miami, Georgia, Tennessee and Bama fans.
Take your whippin like a man, boy.
OSU is not the only college team that I have seen go onto the field and tear down the goal posts after an exciting and emotional win. Not sure how much booze was consumed during the tailgating and in hidden flasks – but no alchol is served at the stadium – unless you are lucky enough to be in one of the suites. ousocialworker is what we refer to as a “gooner” fan – no class.
If you’ve ever watched a big WVU game, you’ll note that the goal posts are collapsed immediately at the final whistle. They learned.
Then, of course, the arsons begin.
