Following up on initial rumors that Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora would take the job at North Carolina, two sources have confirmed to our own John Taylor that Fedora has been offered and has accepted the job at UNC. An official announcement is expected for later today.

InsideCarolina.com has also confirmed the offer.

Fedora is coming off an 11-2 season with USM and a stunning upset over Houston in the Conference USA championship game. Fedora is 33-19 in four years at USM.

Fedora would be replacing interim UNC coach Everett Withers, who took over after Butch Davis was fired over the summer in the midst of the NCAA’s investigation into the football program.

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Mahlzahn was also connected to the UNC job.

What? He’s going to miss out on a trip to Hawaii in A couple of weeks.

After what he did to us, he could have done better.
Didn’t Mack Brown come to Texas from UNC?

Are you guys sticking by this report? Lots of rumors swirling around about Fedora and Texas A&M now…

We stand by it, but reserve the right to be wrong as A&M is gumming up the works. Put it this way: the players and football staff were expecting Fedora to be named today.

Guess Fedora isn’t worried about the penalties that are coming from the NCAA?

Chris Petersen should learn from Fedora. His appeal could not be higher. Strike while the iron is hot so that you have a legitimate shot to win a BCS Championship.

Or you can stay in Boise and whine because you have one quality win, a home loss to a multi-loss team, and a garbage conference schedule. You make the call.
