June Jones’ agent says coach happy at SMU

June Jones, Kyle Padron AP

Most notably connected to the open job at Arizona State, SMU coach June Jones could very well stay with SMU, his agent says.

Jones’ agent, Leigh Steinberg, tells The Dallas Morning News that Jones is quote “happy” at SMU. Although Jones did indeed meet with ASU officials over the weekend, Steinberg indicated there were no plans for an imminent announcement between ASU and Jones.

Word over the weekend and yesterday was that ASU was refusing to back off of Jones as they had with Houston’s Kevin Sumlin. Jones reportedly told his staff that he would stay at SMU, although that has been subject to debate.

Jones made $1.727 million this past year with SMU.

Leave, but he hasn’t led SMU to a big bowl and blown it yet.
