Predictions 101 — Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Utah State vs. Ohio
Dec. 17, 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Boise, Idaho

Blowing a 20-0 halftime lead in a conference championship game is criminal. And for that, the Bobcats were sentenced to a spend mid-December in Boise.

Had Ohio not allowed Northern Illinois to run off with a 23-20 victory and the MAC title, it could have went bowling with the girls in Mobile, Ala. (they’re part of that, right?) or dined on Little Caesars Pizza under the Ford Field roof in Detroit.

Hey, we know those aren’t garden spots and beggars (and MAC members) can’t be choosers, but Potato Bowl isn’t what anyone shoots for.

Nevertheless, it’s an opportunity for the Bobcats to rev up the engine once more.

Ohio’s suitably balanced attack averages 251 yards through the air and 206 on the ground. That’s not a good matchup for Utah State, which is allowing more than 28 points per game.

The Aggies will just have to be satisfied with going to their first bowl game since 1997.

Opening point spread: Utah State by 3

The pick: Ohio 31-24
