For the third time this month, a member of the 2011 Miami Hurricanes has officially decided to bolt Coral Gables a year early.
The U confirmed Monday afternoon that, as expected, running back Lamar Miller has decided to forego another season of collegiate eligibility and make himself available for the April NFL draft. As a redshirt sophomore, Miller actually had two years of eligibility remaining.
Miller’s currently 19th in the country in rushing, averaging 106 yards per game. As noted by CBS Sports.com‘s Bruce Feldman, who first reported Miller’s decision, the back’s 1,272 yards is the third-highest single-season total in school history.
Miller is generally projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
In addition to Miller, wide receiver Tommy Streeter and defensive lineman Marcus Forston announced in early December that they will make themselves available for the draft. All three players have signed with Drew Rosenhaus.
