Eric LeGrand able to sit up in therapy

In this slimy year of college football, former Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand has been a source of positive inspiration.

And, we’re happy to report that LeGrand has made yet another miraculous stride in his recovery efforts since being paralyzed on a special teams collision over a year ago. In an exclusive interview with NBC New York, LeGrand said that he has been able to sit up in therapy for up to 23 seconds.

LeGrand can’t physically lift himself up, but he can maintain his balance once in a sitting position.

“It really is like a strain, my shoulders and my neck, I get a knot in them,” LeGrand said.

Still, LeGrand has been doing this day after day for the past week. Slowly but surely, he’s regaining some sensation in his nerves.

“We have small twitches in his back muscle,” LeGrand’s therapist added. “We’re just trying to strengthen his postural muscles as much as we possibly can.”

Just fantastic news. I know I speak for all of us when I say keep it up, Eric.
