Purdue linebacker lands OVI charge

A bit of legal trouble could cost Purdue one of their starting linebackers for the Little Casesar’s Bowl.

According to Purdue’s police log, junior Dwayne Beckford was arrested at about 4 a.m. Friday for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

“He’d noticeably been consuming alchol, and ultimately, he was arrested for operating while intoxicated,” school police chief John Cox said.

Beckford leads the Boilermakers with 91 tackles, has seven tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception this season.

Earlier this season, Beckford was benched for the first quarter against Southeast Missouri State for an undisclosed disciplinary reasons. He also didn’t start the season finale at Indiana for throwing punches at the end of the Iowa game.
