Mark Stoops staying at FSU

Rumored to be on Auburn’s radar to fill their defensive coordinator void, Mark Stoops is reportedly set to remain where he’s been for the past two years.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, and citing two university sources, Stoops will remain at Florida State as their defensive coordinator. The paper writes that “Stoops turned down ‘multiple’ offers to serve as defensive coordinator at other universities before deciding to stay in Tallahassee.”

In addition to the coordinator job on The Plains, Stoops has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the head-coaching vacancy at Akron as well. The fact that Stoops has been mentioned in connection to any and a lot of openings is not that surprising based on his time with the Seminoles.

Stoops has overseen a defense in Tallahassee that’s made tremendous strides in his two years with the Seminoles. FSU was 94th in the country in scoring defense at 30 points per game the year prior to Stoops’ arrival; in 2010 the ‘Noles were 20th at 19.6 ppg and jumped to fourth at 15.2 ppg this season.
