Jones, Cincinnati agree to long-term extension

Butch Jones AP

Reportedly close to an agreement last weekend, Cincinnati and Butch Jones have indeed agree in principle on a new contract that could keep the head coach at the school for the next several years.

Jones confirmed to the Cincinnati Enquirer that he has agreed to a new deal that will keep him with the Bearcats through the 2017 season.  An official announcement from the school could come at some point this week.

“I think in the next couple of days we’ll be able to announce something,” Jones said. “We say we’re building the best college football program in America. We have a great thing here. There’s a lot of excitement here.”

Co-Big East champs in his second year at the school, Jones has gone 13-11 since taking over for Brian Kelly.

Congrats to coach Jones. As we know a contract is never really a contract but if anything continue to add stability to UC’s football program.
