Academics end RB Jermaine Thomas’ FSU career

After leading Florida State with 832 yards rushing as a sophomore in 2009, Jermaine Thomas combined to run for just 769 yards the past two seasons combined thanks in large part to a couple of nagging injuries.

Now, an off-field issue has served to permanently derail his collegiate career.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed to the media Wednesday that Thomas has been declared academically ineligible. As a result, he will not participate in the Champs Sports Bowl Dec. 29 against Notre Dame.

“He didn’t pass a class, so he will not be in the bowl game,” Fisher said according to the Orlando Sentinel. “A shame for a senior.”

Thomas, currently second on the team in rushing with 279 yards, was a three-star member of FSU’s 2008 recruiting class and Rivals.com‘s No. 15 all-purpose back in the entire country.
