Vanderlinden denies any interest in returning to Terps

If Maryland does indeed decide to make a change at defensive coordinator, you can cross a former Terrapins head coach off the school’s wish list.

In an email to the Baltimore Sun, Penn State assistant Ron Vanderlinden denied any interest in the coordinator job if it comes open. The Washington Post had mentioned Vanderlinden as a potential candidate if/when current coordinator Todd Bradford is relieved of his duties.

“I am not a candidate nor am I interested in returning to Maryland as the defensive coordinator. Hopefully, that will clear things up,” the Nittany Lions coach very succinctly stated in the email to the Sun.

That said, Bradford is expected to vacate his current position after a season in which he directed a defense that was one of the worst in college football -- 108th in total defense (457.2 ypg), 103rd in scoring defense (34.3 ppg). The Post also mentioned former Miami head coach Randy Shannon as a possibility.
