Ferentz defers to flatulence to deflect personnel queries

Kirk Ferentz AP

Finally, a topic right in my 43-going-on-13 wheelhouse.

At a press conference ahead of Iowa’s Dec. 30 Insight Bowl matchup with Oklahoma, head coach Kirk Ferentz was “grilled” by the assembled media about some personnel issues that have been speculated on across the vast expanses of the Internet.  These queries came on top of leading rusher Marcus Coker already suspended for the postseason game as well as Ferentz himself linked to other coaching jobs — again — even as he continues to deny the speculation every step of the way.

Apparently weary of the rumors, Ferentz went all in and played the ever-popular fart card on the scribes in attendance.

After deflecting a few personnel questions Monday, Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz joked that he passed gas on the practice field.

“Did you guys catch that one?” Ferentz joked. “I’ll see if I can muster one up for you right now.”

If the Iowa sports information folks don’t adopt the slogan “2012 Iowa Football: Muster One Up!” at some point before next September, well, those sports information folks might want to consider another line of work.

As for this married man and father of five?  I’ll continue to revel in the fact that a Div. 1-A head coach offered to “muster one up” for the media.  And LMAO as I head out to the playground for recess…

There’s a football program in Iowa other than Iowa State?

On one of the first saturdays on which there existed a Big Ten Network, the guys and I had our three TV’s and two laptops set up in the dorm room enjoying game day. We had the volume up on the Iowa game, and witnessed a commercial that has not left us to this day. It was for Iowa corn, and the slogan they stated that will forever be in our lexicon was:

Every day is game day for Iowa’s corn farmers.

Hate to say it, but Frenetz is a good example of why the SEC dominates. Fernetz is a good coach and prob a great man, but he loses to many big games and far to many games he should win easy. Yet, he has pretty much a lifetime contract at Iowa. Richt is a great man, but if he had not won this year, he was gone from Georgia. We expect our coaches to win, especially the big games. Cue the posts saying the SEC is heartless and only concerned with winning, but that is why we win. Instead, other leagues and fans settle for coaches like Fernetz, then complain and make excuses when the SEC owns them year after year. In college football, the coaches are the constant, players play 4 years tops. Expect more from your coaches, and replace them if they can not deliver.
