Former starting RB one of four Mountaineers no longer with the team

West Virginia arrived in Miami yesterday as the prepare for the Orange Bowl on Jan. 4 against Clemson. However, they’ll be without four of their players when they take on the Tigers.

Coach Dana Holgorsen said Thursday that four players are no longer with the team -- running backs Vernard Roberts (pictured) and Trey Johnson, as well as defensive backs Vance Roberts and Mike Dorsey. The Roberts brothers were academic casualties, and Dorsey reportedly violated team rules. Holgorsen said the four are “no longer with the program.”

Vernard Roberts started the season as the starter, but ended up falling back in the running back lineup. He ended the season with just 44 caries for 140 yards and three touchdowns. His brother, Vance, did not see any playing time this season.

Trey Johnson had just three carries for eight yards; Dorsey recorded just one tackle.
