For the second time during this current declaration cycle, a wide receiver has announced that he has played his final game at the collegiate level.
Wake Forest’s Chris Givens confirmed Saturday afternoon that he will forego his final season of eligibility in order to make himself available for the NFL draft. Givens said the lure of being selected high in the April draft outweighed returning for another season with the Demon Deacons.
“This has been a lifelong dream/goal and I have the potential to be drafted in the first 2 rounds,” Givens said.
The 6-0, 195-pound Givens’ 83 receptions is currently tied for 18th in the country, while his 1,330 yards are good for 10th at the moment. He led the ACC in receiving yards.
For his career, Givens totaled 163 receptions for 2,473 yards and 21 touchdowns.
“Right now it’s just the best decision for me,” Givens said. “I’ve been praying about it, and going over all of the pros and cons of everything and this is the best decision for me right now. I made [the decision to turn pro] yesterday, and I told the coaches today.”
