Kyle Prater taking his five stars and transferring from USC

For the second time in as many days, USC has lost a highly-touted member of one if its recent recruiting classes.

In a missive posted to his Twitter account, wide receiver Kyle Prater announced that he is transferring from the Trojans to destinations unknown. No reason was given for the decision, and the school has yet to comment on the situation.

“I love my teammates, SC, my fans, athletic staff,” the tweet read, “will always respect the coaches. God Bless ;)”

Prater was a five-star member of USC’s 2010 recruiting class, the No. 1 receiver in that class and the No. 3 player in the country at any position according to Rivals.com. Despite the hype and the athletic promise entering USC, Prater’s brief two-year tenure with the Trojans was marred by both injuries and getting buried behind the likes of Robert Woods and Marquise Lee, partly as a result of the myriad health issues.

The 6-5, 215-pound receiver was a redshirt as a true freshman in 2010, and caught just one pass for six yards this season.

Over the weekend, the father of running back Amir Carlisle, a four-star member of USC’s 2011 recruiting class, confirmed that his son will be transferring from the Trojans to Notre Dame.
