Ryan Swope announces he will stay at Texas A&M one more year

Texas A&M fans didn’t have a ton to cheer about with a disappointing 7-6 season, but they have plenty to whoop about today.

Receiver Ryan Swope announced on his Twitter account today — he’s not much of a tweet guy; you’ve been warned — that he will come back for one more year with the Aggies as they transition into the SEC.

“Looking forward to wearing maroon and white one more season! Can’t wait to play for Sumlin and be apart of something special. Gigem!” Swope said.

The junior from Westlake HS had a great 2011, catching 89 passes for 1,207 yards — both single-season school records — and 11 touchdowns.

I’m sure NFL GM’s are extremely disappointed.

Swope’s a great college receiver, but was there seriously a chance he was going to turn pro? Granted, he’s not still growing, so it’s not like the primary concern with him is going to change between now and next year, but at least he’ll get a lot more playing time than he likely would if he were to go pro.
