Trio of Longhorns to miss spring practice with injuries

Though the 2012 Texas spring practices will be closely watched as always, especially with the team’s Holiday Bowl victory over Cal as a launching point for next season, the Longhorns will be without three defensive players.

The school announced today that defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, defensive back Adrian Phillips and reserve defensive tackle Greg Daniels have either undergone, or will undergo, surgery for injuries that will keep them sidelined until voluntary summer workouts.

Specifically, Jeffocat has a ruptured pectoral muscle that he suffered in November against Texas A&M, but played Texas’ final two games with the injury. He is set for surgery on Monday. Phillips and Daniels have already completed successful surgery for shoulder injuries.

Jeffcoat had 71 tackles and eight sacks on the season, good enough for fifth on the team; Phillips recorded 43 tackles, four tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions.
