Nick Montana transferring from the Huskies

Following up on transfer rumors from the past couple of days, it is now official that Washington quarterback Nick Montana will leave the Huskies, the school announced Monday night.

A report from TexasHSFootball.com came out late last week claiming Montana would be enrolling at Blinn College (TX), the former home of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. A TV reporter in College Station later confirmed that there were discussions between Montana and Blinn about the possibility of transferring.

Washington’s release tonight’s doesn’t specifically state to where Montana is transferring, only that he has been granted release of his scholarship.

Montana was in a neck-and-neck battle with starter Keith Price during Washington’s spring practices last year, but ultimately lost out to the sophomore. Price went on to throw for over 3,000 yards and 33 passing touchdowns in 2011, and accounted for 7 total touchdowns in a 67-56 loss to Baylor in the Alamo Bowl.

Montana saw most of his action late in the season when Price suffered a knee injury against USC and recorded one start the next week against Oregon State, a 38-21 loss.
