WKU OC goes to Wisconsin to coach wide receivers

After spending one year with Western Kentucky as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, Zach Azzanni has joined Wisconsin’s coach staff as the Badgers’ wide receivers coach, the school announced today.

Azzanni replaces DelVaughn Alexander, who left UW to take the same job at Arizona State.

“Zach is a great fit for Wisconsin,” coach Bret Bielema said via press release. “He is a terrific coach who stresses fundamentals and is also a great recruiter. His coaching philosophy, personality and character fit perfectly with what we do here and how we do it.”

Azzanni also spent time at Florida (wide receivers, 2010), his alma mater Central Michigan (assistant head coach, wide receivers, 07-09) and Bowling Green State (wide receivers, 03-06). At WKU, running back Bobby Rainey had the second-most rushing yards in 2011 at 1,695 yards. However, outside of Rainey’s success, the Hilltoppers failed to rank in the Top 50 of every major offensive category outside rushing yards.

“My family and I are ecstatic about coming to Madison and joining the Badgers,” Azzanni said. “I’ve known Coach Bielema for a number of years and I jumped at the opportunity to become a part of one of the Big Ten’s best programs. I look forward to getting started and continuing the great tradition at Wisconsin.”
