Utah State nabs Hawaii’s DC to run Aggies’ defense

After leading Utah State’s defense for the past two seasons, Bill Busch will step aside -- but remain on staff -- for a fellow coordinator from the WAC.

The Aggies announced Tuesday that they have hired now-former Hawaii defensive coordinator Dave Aranda for the same role at USU. Aranda had spent the past four seasons with the Warriors, the last two as coordinator.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be able to coach with Coach [Gary] Andersen and his staff. I have a great deal of respect for Utah State football, they play a hard, physical style of football and I believe it is an up-and-coming program that I’m proud and very happy to be a part of it. I want to do whatever it takes to get us to the next level.”

In 2011, Aranda’s defense finished tied for 15th in sacks with 2.7 per game.

He had previously spent time on coaching staffs at Houston and Texas Tech.
