UCF stays in-house for defensive coordinator

A couple of weeks after Ted Roof ended his 32-day tenure as UCF’s defensive coordinator, it turns out the Knights didn’t have to look very far for a replacement.

In a press release announcing the addition of a pair of assistants, the Knights also confirmed that linebackers coach Jim Fleming has received a promotion to coordinator. Fleming will also continue performing his position coach duties.

This will be not be Fleming’s first coordinator rodeo, having held that job during stops at Boise State (1987-92), Brown (1993), Villanova (1998-99) and Akron (2004-09).

He replaces Roof, who left the Knights earlier this month for the same position on Bill O’Brien‘s first Penn State coaching staff.

In addition to Fleming’s promotion, the Knights also announced the hires of Allen Mogridge as special teams coordinator/tight ends coach and Tyson Summers as a defensive assistant.
