APRumored to be a candidate for the Miami Dolphins job just a couple weeks ago, Oregon coach Chip Kelly has now had his name thrown in the bin for another NFL job in Florida.
Per KGW Sports in Portland, Kelly is reportedly close to finalizing a deal that would make him the coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs.
“A source close to the situation said Kelly will make the jump to the NFL if he can come to terms on a contract.” Michael Berk of KGW writes.
Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times also tweets “Both Kelly & the Bucs are proceeding down a path that they mutually hope will result in an agreement in the next 24-48 hours.”
By contrast, both Peter King of Sports Illustrated and Adam Jude of Eugene Register Guard have tweeted that they haven’t heard anything on that report with legs under it.
Also, expect Kelly/Oregon to deny any inquires about a possible move… if, of course, there is anything to deny. Keep in mind that national signing day is just 10 days away, and a rumor like this could be lethal to the Ducks’ recruiting efforts if not debunked immediately.
To be honest, we wouldn’t put it past Lane Kiffin to have played a role in all this*.
(*Kidding. Sort of)
If he does go, here starts the coaching silly season all over again!
I wouldn’t put it past LAME WIMPIN to start this either. He is such a worm!
is he trying to escape sanctions ala Pete Carroll?
this will be the worst hire of all time
and coming to OREGON…..
NCAA SANCTIONS!!!!
Coaches always leave…freaking weasels…
Yeah, I see this working out real well.
Kiffen will be a Trojan for years. And he will likely start going after their five star recruits with this news on the horizon.
I’ve heard on other boards that the Duck’s will target Tony Dungy among others as a replacement. Dungy has been close to the Duck’s program and his son plays for the team.
Sanctions coming…
PAC 12 coaches weasel away from NCAA sanctions with the best of them.

===================================
Monte Kiffin should have worn a Trojan.
… And in related news, Todd Graham has expressed interested in the job vacated by Chip Kelly.
And in other news, Phil Knight buys out Bobby Petrino’s Arkansas contract.
Hey Kercheval, other than this being a lame attempt at humor, explain what Coach Kiffin’s role in Kelly leaving Oregon going to coach the Bucs might be. USC beat Oregon in Oregon this past season so that can’t be a factor. On the other hand Kelly knows if they had played USC in the title game USC would have won the PAC-12.
This possibly gives us a little more of the reasoning behind Darron Thomas’ decision to put in for the draft.
