A&M looks to Boise for co-DC

After nine years as an assistant under Chris Petersen at Boise State, Marcel Yates has officially left the Broncos for a new position further south.

Confirming speculation that has persisted for a couple of weeks, Texas A&M announced Monday the hiring of Yates. The 34-year-old assistant will carry dual titles of co-defensive coordinator and secondary coach.

Earlier this month, Sumlin announced the hiring of Mark Snyder as defensive coordinator, the same position he held before leaving USF.

“Marcel is another terrific recruiter who has a proven record in developing the young men he coaches,” head coach Kevin Sumlin said in a statement. “He has done a great job at Boise State and will be an excellent addition to our staff here at Texas A&M.”

Yates served as cornerbacks coach with the Broncos from 2003-05; secondary coach from 2006-10; and defensive pass-game coordinator/secondary coach in 2011.
