In a story that’s taken the early lead for “Legal Run-in of the Year”, New Mexico quarterback Ryan Trujillo was arrested late last week and charged with battery on a household member. And how did he allegedly batter this female household member? With her own pepper spray outside of an Albuquerque restaurant Friday night.
The Daily Lobo has the details:
The police report said he grabbed his girlfriend’s car keys off the table in the restaurant and that he and his girlfriend fought over the keys in the restaurant parking lot.
He then sprayed his girlfriend in the face with a pepper spray canister attached the keychain, according to police.
Trujillo was a true freshman walk-on for the Lobos in 2011. The school is aware of and looking into the incident.
And we’re assuming Trujillo is looking for a new female household member as well.

Odd stock photo to use with the article. In this case, it was a woman, not a bearded guy, who needed her eyes, nose and mouth rinsed from being pepper sprayed. I admit it is unlikely there is a photo of her being treated for the spraying. That being the case, Trujillo’s mugshot would make more sense. And, a simple google search of “ryan trujillo mugshot” (not including the quotes) immediately brought it up.
At least he didn’t punch her. And it is possible she needed spraying before it escalated.

I completely agree. The vagueness of this report makes Trujillo look like the bad guy, but who’s to say that his girlfriend wasn’t drunk and belligerent?
Well we seem to assume he was in the wrong. What if she was trying to drink and drive and that’s why he took her keys. She then becomes belligerent. Then he did tr right thing. But either way, we don’t know what happened…

So a grown man can’t handle his girlfriend (drunk or belligerent regardless) so he uses pepper spray on her? Nice logic.
He deserves to be arrested.
