Highly-touted recruit Arik Armstead chooses Oregon

A well-documented recruitment for one of the most sought-after high school talents in the country has officially come to an end, barring any unforeseen changes, of course.

And, in the end, it was Oregon who came out the big winner for the playing services of defensive lineman Arik Armstead. The four-star recruit (Rivals.com) chose the Ducks this evening over Auburn, Cal, Notre Dame, UCLA, USC -- where he was formerly committed and the home (for now) 0f older brother Armond -- and Washington.

He was honest with me,” Armstead said of Oregon coach Chip Kelly. “They never talked bad about any other program. They recruited me without recruiting me.”

With signing day just a few days away, Oregon’s success might not be over, either. It’s thought that wherever Armstead went, so would Sacramento safety Shaq Thompson, who is close with Armstead. Thompson was previously committed to Cal before it was announced that defensive assistant Tosh Lupoi was moving on to Washington.
