Big 12 to begin the process of replacing Chuck Neinas

Former Big 8 commissioner Chuck Neinas took over the Big 12 last September when the conference ousted Dan Beebe following yet another near-extinction scare with the possibility of Oklahoma and Texas leaving for what would be the Pac-16.

Now, as the Big 12 looks to a future without Missouri and Texas A&M, but with TCU and, eventually, West Virginia, the process has begun to find a replacement for Neinas, who has been working on an acting basis.

Conference spokesman Bob Burda confirmed to the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday that the Big 12’s Board of Directors will meet on Thursday and consider a search committee to replace Neinas. Neinas has stated he has zero interest in leading the Big 12 going forward.

There’s no timetable, yet, for how long the process could take.

The BOD is also expected to receive an update on the ongoing legal battle between WVU and the Big East. The two sides are in the midst of a judge-ordered, non-binding mediation and a status conference on the development of the informal talks is set for Feb. 9.

Additionally, the Big 12’s schedule for 2012 is supposed to come out tomorrow as agreed upon by the terms of the conference’s TV partners.
