Memphis loses 2011 season-opening starter at QB to transfer

Earlier this month, Jacob Karam announced he would be transferring from Texas Tech to Memphis.

Less than a month later, the Tigers and new head coach Justin Fuente have also lost at the quarterback position as well.

According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Andy Summerlin has decided to transfer from the Tigers and drop down a level to continue his playing career. Summerlin has already enrolled in classes at Div. 1-AA Samford and will be eligible to play immediately.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

After starting the season opener in 2011, Summerlin started just one more game while playing in four more the remainder of the season. He lost the starting job to Taylor Reed (no relation) very early on in the season.
