Neck surgery to sideline Sooners’ Habern for the spring

When Oklahoma takes to the field for the start of spring practice in just over a month, they’ll do so without the services of the anchor of their offensive line.

Center Ben Habern underwent neck surgery late last week, SoonerScoop.com reports, and will not be available for the spring sessions. The website reports that the injury is not considered career-threatening, and he should be ready for the start of summer camp.

It’s unclear exactly when Habern suffered the injury, although a source told the Rivals website that the Sooners “think it could have been something in his neck that goes all the way back to high school.”

A broken forearm cost Habern five games last season, but he came back to play the final five games of the season. Prior to the injury, he had started 17 straight games.
