Larry Scott, rightly so, gets extension as Pac-12 commissioner

The inking of a near $3 billion TV deal and introduction of Pac-12 Networks in the past year has resulted in a well-deserved, and quite frankly, necessary, extension for Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott.

The Pac-12′s board announced today through unanimous vote that Scott has been granted an extension through 2016 with the option to add additional years in the future, by which time the conference may, or may not, be playing sports in China. You can probably expect a pay bump for Scott as well, although that information hasn’t been disclosed.

“My fellow board members and I are delighted to have reached a long-term agreement with the commissioner to continue his excellent work on behalf of the Pac-12,” Ed Ray, Oregon State president and chairman of the Pac-12 board, said in a statement. “We are on the brink of a period of extraordinary accomplishment and excellence throughout the Pac-12 and Larry’s continued leadership and vision for the conference are critical elements in realizing that potential.”

Without a doubt, Scott has done the most outstanding job of any conference commissioner over the past couple of years promoting his conference and putting together media deals to reflect it. You could even say it was, in a trickle down way, responsible for “smaller” Pac-12 schools like Washington State being able to land and pay for a coach like Mike Leach.

The extension is for passing on Texas and Oklahoma and bringing in powerhouses Utah and Colorado. A joke conference.

Yeah that joke of a conference has the best tv contract in college football, even SEC so yeah give five years for the money and new facilities to kick in, and we will see who has the best conference and who’s a joke.

These marriages are ones that match cultures and TV markets before athletics. Larry Scott got a sweetheart TV deal done for that exact reason. He deserves and extension!

Turns out that the PAC 12 didn’t want TU to become its pimp and to have Oklahoma Junior (aka Okie Lite) as a boobie trap consolation prize, which is why OU and TU were ultimately not a match for the PAC 12.

You do not have to respect our conference. We’re happy to count the stacks here out west while you baby-cry.
