Dude even if it is ALL true, it does not even come close to SMU. If you think it does you don’t know the SMU situation very well. Slush funds to pay players initiated by the University itself vs. a rogue booster spending other people’s money so he could hang with UM football players is way different.

The only real comparison as I said before is to Boise State. The worst suspension for Boise received more $ in illegal benefits than O.Vernon from the the U…..and that was in Idaho.

UM has already suffered, and is lucky to have Al Golden. The “slap on the wrist” talk is just bitter OSU, UNC and USC fans who’s problems were institutional and way more outrageous. ie. house in L.A. for players family, head coaches trying to cover things up, assistant coaches openly and admittedly doing outlandish things. none of which happened at the U.

But those things happen all day in the SEC, but it is so huge there, they all keep it hush hush.

UM is tops if not the best in all categories of successful players in the NFL. Obscure fact during Superbowl was they led the league in Superbowl TDs scored.

I think the issue is that you’re posing a hypothetical that is (by all in-depth accounts) entirely impossible.

I agree in general with the ideas of ‘what if some of it is true’, but it’s looking like ‘some’ is realistically ‘less than 1%’ in this guys’ case.

Case in point: the 2011 players that were suspended. Shapiro was claiming all sorts of lavish parties, strippers, gifts, etc. When the NCAA investigated, they found (for the most part) a dinner tab that had been picked up. In the most egregious case (Olivier Vernon), they found that Vernon had been in the guys’ private suite for a home game (I think that alone was considered to be worth 800$). I forget what the rest of the $1300-worth consisted of, but the main point is that what *actually* occurred is well short of what Shapiro claims.

And this wasn’t just the NCAA doing a whitewash. They dinged players for “50$ worth of equipment from the athletic department” as a violation. That’s a t-shirt and an extra pair of gloves.

Being that we live in the USA and one needs to have 100% proof that allegations towards a person, or program in this case, need to be accurate. Having a bunch of receipts and saying “This is what I did with them” isn’t enough. Having pictures of you partying with them isn’t enough. Now if you combine the two, having pictures of them taking the handouts, then that’s 100% proof.

Too bad everyone is still going to hate on a program that no matter how bad they are, like they are now, they’re STILL everyone’s National Championship game.

Good? I’d say a decade of dominance & barely a seasons worth of L’s is a bit more than ‘good’. Better football development? Seriously? Miami has produced more NFL talent, let alone All-Pro players, than any other school HANDS DOWN. Can I have some of what your smoking please?

Miami was good when they started recruiting the South Florida region that most coaches and schools stayed away from. Over the years, the players from these areas (especially the elite ones) realized they could go to better schools with better football development (for the NFL), more playing time and in some cases better academics (whaa?). Tie that with the rise of UCF, USF, FIU, FAU (not big time programs but still D-1) and renaissance of UF and FSU, and Miami has a tough road ahead as it is. They don’t even have their own stadium and can’t get many fans to come to their games.

It’s different when schools like Ohio State get off like nothing even happened, and get a coach who is shadier than the one he replaced and has clear issues that still exist in it’s athletic department.

It doesn’t matter if nobody cares about the sport the illegal benefits happened in, the penalty is the same….and that is my point about UM situation. Morons yelling for the death penalty on networks like ESPN have made it look far worse.
