Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee can be added to the growing list of people -- and from the Big Ten, no less -- who are now, at the very least, open to the idea of a playoff vs. the current BCS format.
Appearing on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, Gee admitted that he is prepared to hear ideas on a college football playoff.
“The world changes,” Gee said.
Not exactly the most passionate endorsement, but I’ll take it.
Gee has been an advocate of the BCS, not to mention keeping “The Little Sisters of the Poor” out of the championship game at one point, but his change of heart is the latest in the ever-shifting philosophy among powers-that-be who find dwindling fan attendance and TV ratings in the current postseason setup just isn’t cutting it.
NCAA president Mark Emmert and even Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany have even come out, albeit cautiously, and expressed their openness of pursuing some sort of postseason change. What that change will be and when it will happen remains one big question mark.
