Thanks to Air Force losing its defensive coordinator to Texas A&M, Wake Forest now has a hole to fill on its coaching staff.
The Falcons confirmed Tuesday that it has hired as Steve Russ as co-defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. Russ, who played at the military academy in the mid-90s, had been with the Demon Deacons since 2008.
Russ will replace Matt Wallerstedt, who left Air Force over the weekend to become the Aggies’ linebackers coach.
Head coach Jim Grobe had just hired two assistants late last week to replace a pair of coaches who weren’t retained following the 2011 season.
