UGA levies two-game suspension on starting corner

Sanders Commings, Michael Carr AP

Nearly a month after getting hit with a domestic violence charge, Sanders Commings has been slapped with a suspension to be served this upcoming season.

In a press release Wednesday afternoon, Georgia announced that the cornerback will serve a two-game suspension to begin the 2012 season.  The soon-to-be senior will miss the opener at home against Buffalo as well as the SEC opener against Missouri in Columbia.

Commings was arrested Jan. 21 and charged with domestic violence and simple battery following an incident involving his girlfriend.  It was alleged, according to witnesses, that Commings struck the female victim in the face during the course of an argument.

In 2011, Commings started all 14 games for the Bulldogs and has played in all but one game the past three seasons.

    So he slapped her, what’s the big deal? If women want to scream equality they better be prepared to accept the good and the bad that comes with it. This would be an example of bad. I would never personally slap a women, however just because I won’t doesn’t mean they don’t deserve it. Maybe she deserved it. And if it’s his girlfriend and they don’t share a common household, how can they consider it “domestic?” If they lived together I could understand, but if they don’t live together then there’s nothing domestic about, I wouldn’t think, and it becomes simple battery / assault. Two game suspension for slapping a girl? Seems fair only if he would’ve gotten a two game suspension for slapping a guy as well.

    gamustanddude, i hope that you feel that way when/if some punk slaps your mom/daughter. what a stupid comment….even for a UGA fan.

    Auburn34…I guess your one of the wussy’s that think a woman can do or say anything they want and a man just has to stand there and take it. What a punk. Women lost the right of being speical when they wanted equality!!! If you want it, you get it all! Not just the parts you want. Some men are abusive, but so are some women and they all deserve to be treated the same. No one here knows what happened so it’s bad wrong to point a finger!

    Wow, just wow, I’ve known for a while that Georgia fans are rednecks but gamustangdude and mrslay1 take cake. Then again, your school and Its great “Christian Coach” seem too be ok with woman beaters as Sander’s “punishment” is a joke.

    @auburntigers34 and themightydrool

    1. I’m not white, not sure how many black rednecks you know, but unless I undergoe some serious tattooing, my neck can’t turn red.
    2. I was born in Maryland, went to UGA for college, graduated, and left. But I guess because I have “georgia” in my name, I chew tobacco and and go “mudding,” and date my sister? You’re the one who’s pathetic not me.

    3. Some women do deserve to be slapped, just like some men. The woman who decided to drown her kids in the river, she deserved to be slapped. The drug addict who sells herself in front of her children for the next hit, she deserves to be slapped. Those women who keep having babies without a means to support them who depend on government assistance, deserves to be slapped. Get it? Some women do deserve it. Open your eyes please, the world ain’t all rainbows and gumdrops.

    Women beaters? Really? You get that from a case that said he slapped his girlfriend? What a idiot

    Wasn’t “alleged” used in the sentence? Seems to me that if you suspend someone while it is “alleged” then you’re not fine with the actions at all.

    I guess if he had stolen a computer or had his daddy sell his arm to the highest bidder that every thing would be ok for the auburn fans on here trying to trash talk Georgia fans.

    its never okay to put ur hands on anyone, male or female, and while i do agree that some women could use a good slapping i highly doubt this was one of these occasions…it sounds like an argument that went too far and i think a 2 game suspension sounds about right…the season opener is a gimme game but Mizzou will be a test for most the SEC teams they face this season simply bc we havn’t played them before…there are far worse crimes out there then simple battery and ppl need to get over this trying to kill off someones career for a stupid move they made in college…i can assure you that there are other students who dont play football who are doing the same things, and i would bet they dont get expelled from school for a DUI or petty misdemenaor….he’s not a woman beater and he’s not out there selling drugs, the punishment has to fit the crime…

    and this is coming from a BAMA fan NOT a UGA fan…
