With the start of its spring practice less than two weeks away, Northwestern has experienced some unexpected attrition in the backfield heading into those sessions.
The Wildcats confirmed via a press release Wednesday evening that running back Adonis Smith has decided to transfer from the football program.
“We’re disappointed to see Adonis leave Northwestern,” said Fitzgerald. “He is an outstanding young man and we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
Smith would’ve entered the spring as NU’s second-leading returning rusher at the RB position, finishing fourth on the team last season with 266 yards rushing and three touchdowns. During his two seasons in Evanston, the San Mateo, Calif., played in 17 career games and totaled 462 rushing yards (4.3 ypc), nine receptions and three rushing TD’s.
There’s no word on where the three-star member of NU’s 2010 recruiting class may continue his collegiate career.
