One season in Oxford is apparently going to be it for Miami (OH) defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis.
Earlier this week, coachingsearch.com reported that that Rekstis would be taking the open FAU DC job under head coach Carl Pelini, the same job that became vacant when Marvin Sanders left the Owls to go to USC earlier this month. Yesterday, fauowlaccess.com reported the same story, citing a source with knowledge of the situation.
CoachingSearch.com is now confirming the hire, but FAU hasn’t made anything official yet.
Rekstis also coached the Redhawks’ defensive backs in addition to his DC duties. From 2004-10, Rekstis was the DC and safeties coach for Kent State.
Rekstis, like Pelini, is a Youngstown State alum, and coached at YSU (1993-2003) when new FAU offensive coordinator Brian Wright was there as a quarterbacks coach. So, if nothing else, the idea that Rekstis could end up at FAU makes sense from the coaching fraternity standpoint.
