Ex-UCF QB Godfrey eyeing FAU, ‘very close’ to transferring to Owls

Ineligible -- per the school -- for the spring semester, Jeff Godfrey opted to transfer from UCF back in mid-December.

Two months later, the quarterback is on the verge of landing a fresh start to his playing career at Florida Atlantic.

FAU is the No. 1,” Godfrey told Chuck King of OwlAccess.com. “A couple of other schools have called me but I’m not really interested in them.”

There is no timeline for an official decision, although Godfrey told the website he is “very close” to transferring to the Sun Belt Conference school.

Godfrey had an outstanding true freshman season with the Knights, earning Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors after starting the final 12 games of the 2010 season and finishing 15th in the country in passing efficiency. His performance this past season, however, took a precipitous nosedive as the sophomore, despite starting 12 games, threw as many touchdowns as interceptions (five).

Godfrey, the No. 8 dual-threat QB in the Class of 2010, will be forced to sit out a transfer season in 2012 regardless of which Div. 1-A school he ultimately selects.
