Red Raiders give LB the boot

Texas Tech v Texas Getty Images

Already dealing with injuries a week into spring practice, Texas Tech has suffered some additional attrition for an entirely different reason.

According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, linebacker Cqulin Hubert has been dismissed from the Red Raiders football program.  The reason for the dismissal was, of course, the ever-popular “unspecified violations of team rules”.

Hubert was considered a leading contender for a starting job.

As a sophomore in 2011, Hubert played in 11 games, starting six of those contests.  he finished sixth on the team and tackles, and had 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.

    Poor TT. He never should have taken that job in the first place. You are way to good a coach to be out in the desert! TT is a good school but Lubbock is just to hard to get kids to come play.

    Cqulin?? Really, his name starts with CQ? How does that happen?

  3. thegamecocker says: Feb 25, 2012 11:56 PM

    @mrslay1

    That isn’t true! Mike Leach won many games at TX Tech. Lubbock might be remote but he proved you can win their. Tuberville is not the right person though for that job. They should never have fired Mike Leach.

  4. mrslay1 says: Feb 26, 2012 12:10 AM

    On that we agree! Mike Leach is one of those guys who will attract enough players to win anywhere he goes. But lets face it…he is one of a kind. TT is a great coach and proved it at Auburn and Miss. State. He just needs a different kind of school.

  5. pdcooper08 says: Feb 26, 2012 12:53 AM

    He’s not a great coach, Leach was and still will be at Wazu. B. Petrino almost back doored TT years ago when he was the OC. Now BP is a winning coach. TT is average at best.

    Leave town or my wife will run you over. The choice is yours.

  7. lemmam says: Feb 26, 2012 6:22 AM

    mrslay1 – have you ever been to Lubbock? It is NOT in the desert as you say. Tuberville sucks as a coach. What has he done @ Tech? His assistants bail on him every year. Players don’t want to play for him.
    You’re an idiot and have no credibility as knowing anything about football. Please do us all a favor and crawl back under your rock

  8. pdcooper08 says: Feb 26, 2012 6:50 AM

    Probably one of the truest statements I have seen here, well stated.

  9. mrslay1 says: Feb 26, 2012 9:13 AM

    You pathetic pu$$y. You know nothing about football. Do everyone a favor and go back to the jungle dancing monkey!

  10. thegamecocker says: Feb 26, 2012 9:47 AM

    All you folks coming down hard on mrslay1 are wrong about his TT comments. Tuberville is a fine coach but not at a school like Tx Tech. Leach is an EXCEPTIONAL COACH though IMO. If anything, Tx Tech students, alumni, and fans should be upset with the Administration that steered to fire him! It was a travesty and now the school is paying a heavy price as a result. Tuberville is somewhat of a control freak and needs to be at a school which will allow him to “run the show”. Tx Tech is not that place. Leach established a culture of winning which Tuberville is trying to uphold. While he has an above .500 record, that is nowhere the standard Tx Tech fans are used to. Whoever lead the charge to fire Leach should be run out of Lubbock.

    Well written gamecocker. I am one who hopes that Leach carrys his suit onto the Supreme Court. Not just because he was screwed out of his money, but that the law seems to protect schools and their administrators and let them get away with anything. They should be held accountable for what they do just like everyone else and no state is ever going to make that happen. You are right about Tommy T being a control freak, but what GREAT coach isn’t. The best know how to make their system work and can not play give and take politics and get it done. Texas Tech was not the right place for Tommy or anyone like him.

    ur absolutely correct. Firing Mike Leach was the dumbest thing they ever did!!!

    We wanted him here at the “U.” But …B U T….even though we have become a third (heck, even maybe a 4th) rate team, the dammed “U” President wouldn’t even consider him. AND…..A N D…..that was “AFTER” Donald Trump’s exhortations. I think a lot of folks are going to rue the day they sided against Coach Leach. Anyway, GO HURRICANES!!

    Yeah, what’s that about. I couldn’t get enough from the short article to tell where this “accidental auto death” thingy is going. Do you know what’s up about that?

  14. thegamecocker says: Feb 26, 2012 12:26 PM

    @drjem

    You have an excellent coach in Al Golden. While he is no Mike Leach, there are not many who are.
    I really admire Coach Leach because he is incredibly bright, articulate, savvy, etc. He even graduated from law school. Al Golden was a savior at Temple. He took a down-trodden program and made it respectable and relevant. And their current coach is very good too. I think the “U” is fortunate to have him.

    I have absolutely no use for the President of Miami University, Donna Shalayla. A horrid woman IMO. There are going to be many schools who will rue the day they didn’t hire Mike Leach. One school in particular, the U. of North Carolina, are dumb-asses for not giving him a shot. But hey, I’m a South Carolina and Rutgers fan so I don’t care.

    My brother ( a “cocky” fighter pilot) is a grad of the Univ of South Carolina & is a RABID fan. Geeezzzzzzz…….you would have thought that I committed heresy when I chose the ” U ” for undergrad and medical school. At any rate, he told me that if the “Cocks” beat Clemson (but, he spells Clemson with a lower case c) then the “Cocks” have had a successful season; regardless of how many games they lost!!!

    Anyway, I want to puke every time that worthless _itch aka Donna Shalayla, sends me a letter requesting “MORE” financial support for the ” U .” They already have more money than God.

    Finally, I never played the game, so I am limited in my knowledge regarding the nuances of the game of football. BUT……..I sure as heck like to blog here, read you other guy’s opinions.

    I am such a neophyte at football in general (though I truly love to watch the game), I was unaware that Al Golden was a good fit for the “U.” I know that Donald Trump wrote across the Sports section of the Sunday edition of the New York Times……..”Donna, hire this guy, Mike Leach, and he will take you back to “prominence.” She never answered the Donald.

    I “PERSONALLY” heard the Donald tell that story at a restaurant in Palm Beach, Fl. Oh well, so much for Donald’s influence with Shalaya & so much for the ” U ” getting Coach Leach. Go Canes!!!

    @To The Good Drjem

    My thoughts and prayers are with your Brother. He is quite correct when he says a win over clemson results in a successful season for the University of South Carolina. While I have disdain for Clemson fans, I have only thoughts and prayers for everyone in the US military, Clemson or otherwise. Those folks allow people like you and I and all the posters to have fun on these boards.

    Not responding to THE DONALD was yet another error in judgement by Donna Shalayla. The following would be the exchange between THE DONALD and Ms. Shalayla: “If you were my husband I’d give you poison” said Shalayla. THE DONALD responded: “If you were my wife, I’d drink it”! She is so pathetic!

    My fondest regards and G-d Bless your Brother.

    Maryland is another school who will curse the day they turned down Mike Leach. He would have been the perfect fit and answered all their needs. They had just fired their Coach of the Year because he couldn’t put butts in the seats and his grad rates weren’t top notch. Those are Leach’s strong suits, in addition to competing for championships. Also, their top booster tried his best to make it happen but couldn’t get it done. Watch Wazzu light it up, now. Watch the Turtle weep.

  18. mrslay1 says: Feb 27, 2012 10:39 PM

    There are a lot of teams that will be wishing they had hired Leach. I can’t believe he was on the market so long. IAs a rule most college administraters are scared little chicken $hit$, but many could have put themselfs on the map with hiring Leach! Congrats Wazzu!

  19. pdcooper08 says: Feb 27, 2012 10:48 PM

    I’ll bet he has those Beavers up and playing hard in no time, hey Mike?

  20. thegamecocker says: Feb 27, 2012 11:42 PM

    Agree! Maryland is another dumb ass school who passed on Coach Leach. I will be rooting for Washington St and Coach Leach.

    Suzanne facing possible manslaughter charges, Tommy facing fraud charges, losing 5 players so far, a questionable recruiting drive – How long will Texas Tech back Tuberville?
