As it turns out, Matt Austin‘s 2011 season at Utah State won’t be his last.
The Aggies announced early Tuesday afternoon that the wide receiver has been granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA. The decision by The Association is a result of Adams missing all of the 2009 season with a foot injury and then suffering a season-ending knee injury during the 2010 opener.
“Matt is a tremendous team leader for us both on and off the field. He is a standout wide receiver for us and we know we can count on him to make the big play when needed as he showed last season with two game-winning catches for us. His talent-level on the field makes him one of the best wide receivers in our conference,” head coach Gary Andersen said in a statement. “His ability to be a team leader and a mentor to the younger players at all positions is just as important to our program as the plays he makes on the field.”
Austin started eight of the 13 games in which he played in 2011, leading th Aggies in receptions (34), receiving yards (465) and receiving touchdowns (six).
