After “parting ways” with Louisville midway through the 2011 season, Mike Sanford has reportedly landed on his coaching feet a little further west.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the ex-Cardinals offensive coordinator is set to be named as Utah State’s new running backs/tight ends coach. Sanford would replace Ilaisa Tuiaki, who it was officially announced Monday would be leaving for a job at Utah.
It’s unclear when Utah State will make the official announcement.
Sanford comes to the Aggies after spending the 2010 and part of the 2011 season as the coordinator at Louisville. Rumors began swirling shortly before the UofL’s Oct. 8 game against North Carolina that Sanford had been dismissed, although the official separation didn’t come for more than a week.
Prior to his brief stint with the Cardinals, Sanford spent five seasons as the head coach at UNLV. This will also be a homecoming of sorts for Sanford, who was Utah’s coordinator in 2003-04.
