SDSU D-lineman hit with pair of felonies

San Diego State’s bad news isn’t ending at the dismissal of running back Dillon Baxter. Unfortunately for Aztecs coach Rocky Long, the following issue is far more serious.

Defensive lineman Dontrell Onuoha has been hit with a pair of felony charges -- assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and battery with serious bodily injury -- stemming from a Sept. 25 incident that the San Diego Union Tribune refers to as a “beating.”

A police report from the incident said an altercation between Onuoha and another male resulted in the victim suffering a right orbital eye fracture, requiring surgery. The victim lost partial vision in that eye and might not regain full vision ever again. SDSU redshirt freshman running back Brandon Wright has also been investigated in the case, but no charges have been filed against Wright by the district attorney’s office.

Onuoha was a primary backup for the Aztecs last season and was expected to compete for a starting job in 2012. Long could not be reached for comment by the paper and Onuoha’s future with the team is uncertain.
