Statues of Auburn’s three Heisman winners to be unveiled on A-Day

Bryant Gumbel be damned, Auburn is going through with its plan to unveil statues of the program’s three Heisman Trophy winners.

Joining the likes of Alabama and Florida, which have memorialized their head coach and trio of Heisman winners, respectively, Auburn will unveil statues of former players Cam Newton, Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan in a ceremony before its spring A-Day Game on April 14.

The plans have been in the works for some time, even before Newton won the Heisman in 2010.

Sullivan and Jackson won the Heisman in 1971 and 1985, respectively, and Newton led the Tigers to a BCS championship win in 2011.

Nothing like copying Alabama! When you only win one national championship in 50 years you can’t put statues of the coaches!

It’s only right that Auburn put up a statue of college graduates, scholar-athletes like Pat Sullivan and Bo Jackson. But SCAM NEWTON, I guess when Auburn wants to embarrass itself, it might as well go all the way with someone who represents everything wrong with college athletics: A LIAR, CHEAT, AND THIEF is what that statue of scam will be. That NC is tarnished in the eyes of most of America. That is why the NCAA changed the rules after this fiasco. And OJ didn’t kill Nicole Simpson or Ron Goodman.

I know the U. of Alabama. I respect that University. That school wins with honor and integrity. IMO, Auburn does not. The statue of scam = a big TROJAN HORSE.

Gamecocker- you’re such a joke. Slightly bitter that your school doesn’t have the opportunity to reward such players? Remove that houndstooth-colored probe from your insides and get a life instead of continuously bash a school that has no real beef with your team. Mainly because Auburn handles SC consistently.

Up til last year when you used an ineligible player, I too had no beef with Auburn. This past year Auburn won fair and square. But not last year. Your school is viewed with disdain and contempt by most of the Nation. Auburn is a pariah, a school that cheats and all courtesy of a transfer athlete from Florida. A person who was not at all interested in a genuine college education. Just an athlete. And Slive allowed it; the NCAA turned the other eye but did change the rules. He wouldn’t have been eligible today. And BTW, we have George Rogers, a USC graduate as our Heisman winner. Hell, did newton even go to class? Did he even earn any credits? LOL with your “TROJAN HORSE” statue of that bum.

56-17 still stings, doesn’t it? or is it the fact that Auburn pretty much owns USC that bothers you so much? seriously, if USC has even one win against Auburn over the years, i’d be shocked.

How well do you KNOW Cam Newton? Or any collegiate athlete for that matter? You talk talk so matter of factly about something that you read about. Are you aware that technically you’re slandering Cam? Probably not. And congratulations on your one Heisman winner.
Side note, don’t be surprised that SC has a win against Auburn. They do in fact have ONE win. That cannot feel good in any sort of way.

Gamecocker is right here. I have never had a problem with Auburn and we at Arkansas have had good games with them. Even more I think Bo Jackson was not only the Heisman winner but the Best football player ever! But Newton was over the top. The only real slur anyone can have on the SEC and our football success in the last 10 years is this Newton and Auburn team. The rules had to be changed because of what he and Auburn got away with. I am a true blue SEC fan and pull for every team in it against it other teams, but this is one thing that can not be defended! And his dad calling himself a pastor makes it even worse.

How do you like winning a NC with a Florida reject? It’s tarnished and you’re the one having a difficult time with it. But, if you choose to live your life as a lie, be my guest. If your school wants to honor someone go right ahead and do it. But many people look upon that one as TARNISHED! Read it and weep because that is reality. Is he a great player? No doubt. A scholar / athlete? Not on your life. And you know it.

  9. thegamecocker says: Mar 6, 2012 8:50 PM

Thank you sir! I guess it is just too much for Auburn fans to digest. Frankly, I would not want to win a NC the way they did it. It really brings negative attention to the FINEST CONFERENCE IN THE NATION. And Mike Slive is also guilty on this one as well as the NCAA. The rule should be no player from an SEC school can transfer to another SEC school to play that sport. Period end of report.

Live my life as a lie? Seriously? I live my life as an Auburn fan. I don’t live my life through Auburn. You obviously don’t know the difference. Your preposterousness is getting out of hand. You can’t be taken seriously because your team is historically bad. Your team should win a couple more SEC East Championships (because God knows that ONE was hard enough) before you come back to run your man-pleaser about anything having to do with winning.

OK, this is my final response to you so if you can understand this: there is a difference between WINNING and WINNING WITH HONOR AND INTEGRITY. Instead of attacking South Carolina, Rutgers, or the U. of Pennsylvania, take a step back and think about what I just wrote. Now if you care to have the last word and you think you’re winning, that certainly is your prerogative. One last thing: you have a quality day.

Give it a rest. Are you even a graduate of SC? I highly doubt it. The fact that you took this post as an opportunity to blast Cam Newton and Auburn is shameful. And you respect Alabama? Give me a break. Go back to digging ditches. Every program has issues. I recall last year reading an article on violation from your beloved program. “Failure to Monitor”. Football players receiving improper benefits for housing. You’re just upset because the money Steve threw at Cam wasn’t enough. War Eagle! Let me know the next time you beat Auburn, loser!

  13. florida727 says: Mar 7, 2012 1:03 PM

Wow. Pretty “charged” topic obviously. As a Florida fan, by law, I’m required to root against Auburn, among others :) But I’m glad they’re honoring their national championship team and their Heisman winners.

Say what you want about Cam Newton, the bottom line though is that he is one incredible athlete. As far as the “student/athlete” thing goes, if you’re stupid enough to think a lot of kids don’t go to college to pave their way into professional sports, then you’ve never been Lexington, KY’s Rupp Arena, have you? (think short pants and a round ball being stuffed through a hole 10′ off the ground)

I say, enjoy this Auburn fans. Good for you. Haters will always hate. God bless…

  14. auburntigers34 says: Mar 7, 2012 3:36 PM

he won the Heisman. Auburn won the NC. get over it…..or don’t. i don’t really care either way.
