Suspended for all of ’12, Michael Harrison leaving Okla. St. football

Less than a month after unconfirmed reports surfaced that Michael Harrison would be suspended for the entire 2012 season, Oklahoma State has confirmed the suspension.

And that the wide receiver is no longer a wide receiver, at least with the Cowboys.

Mike Gundy confirmed to the Daily Oklahoman that Harrison has been suspended by the NCAA, although the OSU head coach did not divulge the reason behind the suspension. Additionally, Gundy said Harrison has left the OSU football program and, in a stunning bit of news, “he’s decided he does not want to play football anymore.”

It’s unclear whether Gundy’s referring to Harrison’s collegiate career or football, period.

Harrison would be granted his release if he decided to transfer, Gundy said, although the suspension would follow the receiver. Currently, Harrison remains enrolled in classes at OSU.

Harrison, with 20 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt sophomore last year, was expected to play a major role in the Cowboys’ offense in 2012. As he’s three years removed from high school, Harrison could try to make himself available for the NFL’s supplemental draft this summer.
