Razorbacks add receiver to 2012 recruiting class

With National Signing Day nothing but a speck in the offseason rearview mirror, Arkansas has bolstered its Class of 2012 with a late signing just ahead of the start of spring practice.

In a release, the Razorbacks announced that wide receiver Mekale McKay has been added to its most recent signing class. McKay becomes the fifth receiver signed by UA for 2012.

“We are excited to add Mekale to what we feel like is a very fast and athletic class,” said head coach Bobby Petrino. “Mekale is a big, strong receiver with great hands who has an extremely physical style of play. We’ve led the SEC in passing the last three seasons and our goal each year is to accomplish that. Mekale joins a talented group of incoming receivers that combine to bring a number of different strengths to the field.”

The 6-6, 195-pound receiver out of Louisville (Ky.) Moore High School was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Kentucky and as the No. 48 WR in the country according to 247Sports.com.

The release from Arkansas stated that McKay chose the Razorbacks over offers from such schools as Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville, Cincinnati and Indiana.

Rivals.com wrote that Harris “was set to sign a basketball scholarship with UTEP before deciding he’d rather play two sports in college.” Both Arkansas and Ole Miss were offering the opportunity to at least attempt to become a two-sport athlete.
