UPDATED 3/13 @ 11:51 a.m. ET: Temple confirmed via a press release that co-offensive coordinator Matt Rhule is leaving for the assistant offensive line job with the New York Giants.
“Matt has been tremendously loyal to this university and has a truly great football mind,” head coach Steve Addazio said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for him and his career. We are very grateful for his contributions to Temple, and we certainly understand that when our great coaches have opportunities, it’s a compliment to our program. We wish Matt nothing but the best. He will always have a special place here at Temple.”
The release did not state Addazio’s plans for replacing Rhule, and whether Ryan Day will become sole coordinator.

In late February Temple added Ryan Day to Steve Addazio‘s coaching staff, announcing that the former Boston College assistant would serve as co-offensive coordinator alongside Matt Rhule.
Nearly three weeks later, Day could be flying solo on offense.
According to Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com, Rhule is leaving the Owls to take a position with the NFL’s New York Giants. Specifically, Rhule will reportedly become the Giants’ assistant offensive line coach.
An email seeking confirmation from the school has gone unanswered.
In addition to his coordinator duties, Rhule also carried the title of tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for the Owls. Rhule and Day would’ve replace Scot Loeffler, who left after one season as coordinator for the same position at Auburn.
This season would’ve been Rhule’s sixth season at Temple, with three of those seasons (2008-10) spent as coordinator. Prior to that, he has served on staffs at Western Carolina, UCLA and Buffalo.
Temple, which will move from the MAC to the Big East in 2012, will open spring practice March 12.
