Updated: NIU LB still on team after indictment

UPDATED 3/20 @ 6:00 p.m. ET: Though NIU linebacker Jamaal Bass is facing two counts of assault charges, school athletic director Jeff Compher said Monday night that Bass’ status with the team has not changed:

“As the legal proceedings in Toledo involving NIU football player Jamaal Bass are ongoing, we will reserve any comment until that process is complete. Jamaal is currently enrolled at Northern Illinois and his status with the football program has not changed.”

Finally, after decades of wedgies, swirlies and general bullying of band nerds at the hands of oppressive jocks, some retribution.

Over four months after Northern Illinois linebacker Jamaal Bass allegedly ran shoulder-first into a University of Toledo band member and knocking them to the ground, the football player is facing criminal charges.

A Lucas County grand jury Friday indicted Bass on one count of felonious assault and one count of misdemeanor assault for the pre-game incident, although an arraignment date has not been set. The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of up to eight years in prison.

Bass was ultimately suspended an additional two games on top of his initial one-game suspension following the punishing of the dweebs alleged assault.
