Virginia Tech LB to undergo surgery, out for spring

The latest in what seems like a rash of spring-ending surgeries comes today courtesy of Virginia Tech linebacker Tariq Edwards.

The school announced on Tuesday that Edwards will undergo surgery today to insert a rod in his left tibia that will relieve pain from a stress fracture Edwards has in his shin. The redshirt junior is expected to miss 3-4 months recovering, but will be back in time for part of summer workouts.

“The injury occurred late in the season and he played in the [Sugar] bowl game with it,” said VT trainer Mike Goforth in a statement. “We don’t like to rush in and do surgery on those unless you absolutely have to. It hasn’t healed by conservative measures, so it’s time to go ahead and fix it.”

Edwards started all 14 games for the Hokies last season and recorded 71 tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions
