APWhile the details are still very scant, Arkansas confirmed Monday morning that head football coach Bobby Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident Sunday evening.
Petrino reportedly suffered multiple injuries in the accident, including multiple broken ribs, cuts and bruises and a sprained neck. Fortunately, those injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening.
In a press release, Arkansas stated that athletic director Jeff Long has been in touch with the Petrinos, and that he will consult with the family to provide additional information at a later time. In the interim, Petrino’s family issued a brief statement regarding the coach.
“Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals,” the family’s statement read. “He is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.”
Petrino will be entering his fifth season as the Razorbacks’ head coach in 2012, and will be coming off back-to-back 10-win-plus seasons.
UA is in the midst of spring practice, with the spring game scheduled for Saturday, April 21. There’s no word yet on Petrino’s availability for the remainder of the spring slate.
Wishes for a speedy recovery, coach!
It is very good news to hear none of the injuries are life threatening but it seems he did suffer some serious injuries (broken ribs, etc.). I do wish Coach rest and quick recuperation. Sounds very similar to the injuries I suffered on one of my bike crashes a few years back.
Best to you Coach Petrino!
was he cut-off by an Atlanta Falcons fan?
One of those times when human kindness wars with schadenfreude.

Sorry, but I have to ask the question: what kind of an @$$hole would thumbs-DOWN a wish for someone to recover from an accident? Just curious…

That crossed my mind, too.
Takes all kinds, I guess.

The first time I saw negative thumbs on a similar type of posting were when the story came out about Florida State Coach Fisher and his wife having a son they asked for prayer concerning. The son has a rare disease, and they started a foundation in his name to help other children with this disease. Numerous posters posted prayers and best wishes. Unknown posters gave most, if not all, repetitive negatives. One suggestion was it could be some adolescents…at least adolescents in maturity?
