‘Conduct unbecoming’ nets Duke WR a dismissal

Based on the response from Twitter, that conduct ranged from “he knew how to play?” to getting a B in an advanced chemistry class.

Unfortunately, it’s something a whole helluva lot more serious

Duke announced Wednesday afternoon that wide receiver Tyree Watkins has been dismissed from the Blue Devils. The official reason behind the dismissal from head coach David Cutcliffe is “conduct unbecoming of a member of the program.” Of course, the specific conduct was not detailed in the school’s release.

The Associated Press did provide some specifics, however, reporting that Watkins was arrested Monday and charged with assaulting a female. NBC-17 in Durham delves even further, writing that the female victim alleged “Watkins pulled her out of a car, grabbed her by her neck and choked her, causing her to hit her head against a wall.” The unnamed female victim and Watkins were reportedly involved in a relationship.

The dismissal comes just four days after Watkins totaled five receptions for 78 yards in the Blue Devils’ spring game. In 28 games the past three seasons, the Camden, NJ, native had 24 receptions for 152 yards.
